Traveling Thrifter - Columbia, SC
Updated: Mar 16, 2019
I recently decided on Columbia, SC as a destination for the Traveling Thrifter series. Serving as the capital of my home state, Columbia has a few nicknames - Soda City, The Met, Cola,... This trip was a little different though. I decided to meet up with blogger and thrift sis Chelsea (MoMackStyles). I met Chelsea last spring while working together on Charlotte Curvy Fashion Week and was looking forward to catching up... and shopping, of course! It was great to have another thrift fashionista to run all the finds by and share in the glory of a good score. Can't wait to do it again, but in the meantime - let me share a list of the places I was able to check out!
Teen Challenge Super Thrift - Garners Ferry Road
Located in busy shopping center
Not sized (however, plus size is separated out)
Large, roomy store
Priced by like items unless otherwise noted
Profits benefit teens and adults enrolled in Teen Challenge - a non-profit specializing in the recovery and prevention of life-controlling issues
Tucked away in a low traffic shopping center
Large, roomy store
Very friendly staff
Priced by like items
Profits benefit God Cares Charities
Another location off Parklane Road (added to my "to visit" list)
Goodwill Upstate/Midlands - Garners Ferry Road + Decker Boulevard
Located in relatively busy shopping centers
Large inventory of brand new Target merchandise that never made it off the clearance shelves/racks (clothing, shoes, houseware, electronics, furniture, etc)
Loads of brand new USC Gamecock merchandise
Serves the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg and Union
Fitting rooms are picture-ready (check out the #ThriftScore wall the next time you're deciding yay or nay)
Let's talk about Goodwill hunting though. I thought I was in love with Goodwill - Keystone area in Pennsylvania but I was blown away by the Goodwill stores in Columbia. I was able to work on my upcoming spring/summer wardrobe by scoring a number of brand new shorts, pants, dresses and skirts. My favorite find was a green travel city bag that normally goes for about $100 but I purchased for $8! Eek!
Columbia was good to me! I will definitely be returning soon to round out my list with thrift sis Chelsea in tow and maybe ask a few others to join. Meetup anyone?
